But the G6-300 is more than just a video
entertainment center. The PII-300 topped every
                  business and game performance benchmark
in this roundup. Of course we expected as
much, because there's only one other system
in its processor class: Dell Dimension XPS
D300, which the G6-300 outpaces by seven
percent. Both PCs use the same 4MB STB
Velocity 128 AGP graphics card, the same
big, ultra-fast IBM 8.5GB hard drive, and the
same 56-kbps modem. The only criticism we
can make of the Gateway is that with all these
devices installed you're left with only one open
slot (a shared PCI/ISA) for future expansion.
On the bright side, the case offers tons of
space for drive expansion: three front-opening
                  and four internal bays.

Gateway caters to the home user with a slick
keyboard studded with 14 buttons for
manipulating audio and video features by
pressing a single key.. And buyers can
                  choose between four Microsoft-based software
packs: Office 97 SBE with Bookshelf, or
                  Home Essentials with three supplemental
suite options--one with action games, one with
edutainment software, and one with reference
                  titles. Out-of-box setup was clearly
                  documented and uneventful.

                  Gateway's match of high-end multimedia
                  components and user-friendly features makes
the G6-300 perfectly suited for the home. Are
you the type who's willing to spend serious
money if you're sure it's not being wasted? If
so, the G6-300 has your name on it.
